Linus: “I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.”

It’s a perfect tree Linus, Charlie did us all proud and so did Mr. Schulz!

Dark Hall Mansion, www.DarkHallMansion.com, is excited to release our Officially licensed 2012 Peanuts print for Charles M. Schulz’ masterpiece, “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

On sale next Friday, Nov 9, 2012 at 9:30 AM PST so there’s plenty of time to enjoy Charlie, Linus, Snoopy, Lucy, and a most extraordinarily inspiring little tree, all together for your Christmas and holidays.

Artist Laurent Durieux, who we first introduced to you almost a year ago now, has masterfully captured the depth and pathos that is “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Always aspiring to something just a little different on a classic legacy, all of us at DHM were struck by the beauty, elegance and quiet resonance of Laurent’s piece from the moment we first saw his initial Christmas work. We think every Peanuts fan will share our feelings; the depth of empathy for Charlie and our own place in this world, all so beautifully explored in
Charlie’s simple upward gaze. a gaze that is so much more.

Charlie Brown: “I guess you were right, Linus. I shouldn’t have picked this little tree.
Everything I do turns into a disaster. I guess I really don’t know what
Christmas is all about.”
[shouting in desperation]
“Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”
Linus Van Pelt: “Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.”

Laurent’s quiet moment of reflection is directly emotional and complimented beautifully by a palette of dark blues against a frosty night. His Variant by contrast is celebratory, joyous and allows us all to join Charlie in perhaps his greatest moment of triumph, one from the soul, one celebrated in song as well as spirit.

So join your old Peanuts friends, ones that show us all just how much we really need one another, how much we all yearn and question, and just how far a little hope can take us. There’s just something that speaks to our collective memory and warms the soul with that final communal yell that expresses it all:

Everyone: “Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!!”

Charlie Brown: “I’ve killed it. Oh! Everything I touch gets ruined.”

Never, Charlie, just remember what Linus reminds us all:

Linus Van Pelt: “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.’”

Linus picks up his blanket and walks back towards Charlie Brown:

Linus Van Pelt: “That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”

Merry Christmas everyone, God bless,

ALICE’S FRIEND’S, “THE HATTER” and “CATERPILLAR ON SALE NEXT MON OCT 29, 9:30 AM PST!!

Los Angeles, CA, Oct 22, 2012

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Dark Hall Mansion, www.DarkHallMansion.com, is most pleased to release “The Hatter” and “Caterpillar,” two inspired bits of madness by artist Johnny Dombrowski, with an eccentric visit by none other than a very outré Cheshire Cat.

On sale next Monday, Oct 29, 2012 at 9:30 AM PST, these two highly select editions, numbering only 99 examples for “The Hatter” and 99 for “Caterpillar,” with an additional 25 Variants for each artwork respectively, are 22″ x 30″ (56 cm x 76 cm), beautifully printed on English Coventry Rag Vellum, and are all personally signed and numbered by the artist.

Alice and her excursions into Wonderland are an essential touchstone for DHM, as likely comes as no surprise to most, so building on our release of ‘Alice,’ by UK artist Eelus in 2011, was both natural and imperative for us, so this year New York’s own Johnny Dombrowski goes further down the rabbit hole still with his elegant takes on both Hatter and Caterpillar, creating two companion pieces for ‘Alice,’
both printed in exactly the same size as ‘Alice,’ and making for a compelling threesome of eccentrics to date.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
-The Hatter

We do, and we agree, we think you will too, best to let Mr.Dombrowski elucidate:

“Wanting to show the Mad Hatter’s insanity on a physical plane, the idea of him being an empty shell was an idea I was experimenting
with during the sketch phase. He was at first split straight down the middle but that evolved into the spiral or helix, which I think shows the idea a bit more successfully. It was also really important for me to have the Cheshire Cat smiling and looking out as a nod to the viewer. His quote “We’re all mad here” proves that he still had at least some of his sanity still intact. He’s aware of what’s going on just like the viewer and Alice. That’s why I think Wonderland is his world. He’s a step above all of this lunacy.”

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’
-Alice
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.

As elusive a guide and signpost as one would ever hope to encounter, in Johnny’s hands, Cheshire’s intensity is as arresting as his ever present smile. Paired with Hatter in a topsy turvy world of visual inversion where teapots, cups and saucers seem to float away, surreal companions they prove to be.

Of Johnny’s striking Caterpillar, both a fit foil and companion for Alice indeed, beautifully rendered with Johnny’s meticulous attention to detail, his piece challenges not only Alice but the viewer with three little words whose challenge resonates with us all:

“Who are You?”
-Caterpillar

Johnny on Caterpillar:

Not interested in a thing we have to say. With nowhere else to go, the Caterpillar is forced to exhale his patronizing first words. While the Cheshire cat is my favorite in Wonderland, the Caterpillar is a very close second. The two of them still have, in some ways, an understanding of what’s happening around them. Like the Mad Hatter illustration, I tried to have an unique approach to representing the characters. Something different from the movies or the Tenniel drawings. After a lot of brainstorming, making him this apathetic, judgmental creature was still definitely the strongest way to go. That and running with the body patterns of monarch caterpillars, I tried to incorporate a kind of Fu Manchu vibe to his antennae. A creature trapped in the thoughts of his own mind, not concerned with the worries of Alice and the Wonderland. Only flowers and his smoky apparitions to keep him company.

So join us in engaging these friends, acquaintances, if you prefer, but do so while you can as each edition is limited to only 99 examples, plus the select 25 color Variants for each of Johnny’s pieces. All “The Hatter” and “Caterpillar” editions are individually hand-pulled screen prints in 8 and 9-color by the fine printers at DL Screenprinting. Every edition is individually signed and numbered by the artist, and so will well keep for those having previously acquired DHM’s ‘Alice’ by Eelus.

On that, for those that have yet to acquire an ‘Alice,’ do know we will place a select number of DHM’s remaining examples online as well and we will combine shipping at no extra charge for any “Alice,” “The Hatter” or “Caterpillar” editions purchased.

Domestic shipping anywhere in the US is $13, and for our international
buyers, do know shipping is only $25 regardless the number of editions combined and posting out.

*Edition Specifics:

“Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

“Do you think I’ve gone round the bend?”
“I’m afraid so. You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head.
But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

The Variant print, only 50 available, on sale next Tues 10/2/12 at: 9:30 AM PST in out Store:

Marcie: Don’t feel bad, Chuck. Peppermint Patty didn’t mean all those things she said. Actually, she really likes you.
Charlie Brown: I don’t feel bad for myself, I just feel bad because I’ve ruined everyone’s Thanksgiving.
Marcie: But Thanksgiving is more than eating, Chuck. You heard what Linus was saying out there. Those early Pilgrims were thankful for what had happened to them, and we should be thankful, too. We should just be thankful for being together. I think that’s what they mean by ‘Thanksgiving,’ Charlie Brown.

We couldn’t agree more Marcie!

Officially licensed Peanuts “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” Prints On Sale Next Tuesday, 10/2/12 @ 9:30 AM PST!

Los Angeles, CA, Sept 25, 2012

Charlie: I can’t cook a Thanksgiving dinner. All I can make is cold cereal and maybe toast.
Linus: That’s right. I’ve seen you make toast. You can’t butter it, but maybe we can help you.

We can help too, Charlie Brown, and so can artist Tom Whalen!!

Dark Hall Mansion, www.DarkHallMansion.com, is thrilled to release our first ever Officially licensed Peanuts print for the Thanksgiving classic, Charles M. Schulz’ “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.”

On sale next Tuesday, Oct 2, 2012 at 9:30 AM PST, make sure you get a little more than just toast, pretzels, jellybeans and popcorn for this Thanksgiving and get it early so you have plenty of time to enjoy Tom Whalen’s outstanding take on the Schulz masterpiece this holiday season.

Artist Tom Whalen has done it again! Building on his two brilliant sold out releases from 2011, Great Pumpkin and Charlie Brown, Christmas, this is our first release for “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and we couldn’t be more excited to share this with everyone. Tom has outdone himself with one of his most charming works of art to date.

A lot of things really rocked about the ’70s, not the least of which was having Charlie, Snoopy and the whole gang over every year at Thanksgiving time on TV!! Old friends dropping by, their arrival on TV meant you were in the home stretch and the holidays were now truly going into full swing!

And only Sally, Charlie’s little sister, could open a now mandatory Thanksgiving classic in this manner and have it met with our collective smiles year after year decades later:

Sally Brown: What’s the matter, big brother?
Charlie Brown: Nothing. I was just checking the mailbox.
Sally Brown: What did you expect, a turkey card?

We think you’ll agree Tom’s art reveals just how excited he was to finally be able to showcase Snoopy and Woodstock as well as bring you old friends like Franklin, Marcie and the legendary Peppermint Patty, whose Thanksgiving rant paved the way for a gently touching reminder and prayer from Linus that helps us all remember just what the true meaning of giving thanks and being together is all about.

Tom’s artwork is all warm Fall tones, falling leaves, comforted smiles, ’70s touches, including those classic ’70s chairs, most notably with a special appearance by a certain folding chair that had the audacity to take on Snoopy earlier in this Thanksgiving classic, a little nest for beloved Woodstock, and a backyard feast like no other.

His Variant print maintains that Thanksgiving spirit while punching up the colors for a little injection of fun and color craziness.

Tom’s thoughts on: “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”
“Growing up, “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” was, surprisingly, not on my radar. “Great Pumpkin” and “Christmas” were annual staples, but for some unknown reason, I never saw the entire Thanksgiving special until recently. I can say for certain that my kids will never lead the sheltered childhood that I did, as I already showed and have it in heavy holiday rotation for my son. As are all of the Peanuts specials, it’s a heartwarming slice of americana and I’m glad I discovered it, if just a tad late.”

So please remember to make time for family, friends and loved ones this Fall, and sit down with Peanuts, old friends that remind us all just how human we all are, how much more we all share in common than differences, and let Bill Melendez’ brilliant direction (see his overdue credit on this poster!) and Vince Guaraldi’s masterful score and too cool jazz whisk you away reminding you what truly matters. Slow down just a moment for it all, so when a certain someone asks the timeless question, we can all answer with love and mean it:

“Peppermint Patty: What’s this? A piece of toast? A pretzel stick? Popcorn? What blockhead cooked all this?”

Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie and Linus did Patty, and we’re all the better for it!!!

All editions are 18″ x 24,” strictly limited, numbered, and hand-pulled screenprints by the good folks at DL Screenprinting with Editions as follows:

Standard: “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (Edition of 300)

Variant: “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (Edition 50)

Linus: “In the year 1621, the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast. They invited the great Indian chief Massasoit, who brought ninety of his brave Indians and a great abundance of food. Governor William Bradford and Captain Miles Standish were honored guests. Elder William Brewster, who was a minister, said a prayer that went something like this: ‘We thank God for our homes and our food and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice.”

Peppermint Patty: Amen.”

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, God bless,

I was robbed! I spent the whole night waiting for the Great Pumpkin, when I could have been out for tricks or treats.
You blockhead! You kept me up all night waiting for the Great Pumpkin, and all that came was a beagle! I didn’t get a
chance to go out for tricks or treats. And it was all your fault! I’ll sue! What a fool I was! I could have had candy
apples and gum and cookies and money and all sorts of things. But no! I had to listen to you, you blockhead. What a
fool I was. Trick or treats come only once a year, and I missed it by sitting in a pumpkin patch with a blockhead.
YOU OWE ME RESTITUTION!!
